How to obtain a temporary weapon import permit

PSS specialises in assistance to foreign visitors, wishing to import their weapons into South Africa, for hunting or sporting events. This page contains all the information and documentation you may require. Should you encounter any difficulties, please do not hesitate to contact us, using one of the contact methods included at the top of this page.

Please complete the following and mail or courier it to us:

Passport:

  • A certified copy of your passport with two free pages with 4-months validity (after your planned return from the trip).
  • A certified copy of your passport (photo page) and a copy of your licence.
  • NOTE: All these documents need to be signed and stamped by your Police Department or attorney as true copies.

SAPS 520 Form

Please complete only sections E1 to E25.4, G, I (sign), J (sign) and submit the full application form (8 Pages). The Downloads section at the bottom if this page contains all he pdf documents and forms, which you can download and print out.

Authority Form

This form will give Passenger Support Services authority to submit the application and to collect the approved Permit on your behalf. It is available in the Downloads section.

Proof of Ownership

Proof of ownership in the form of:

  • Copy of your licence, or;
  • Original invoice where you purchased the firearm, or;
  • An affidavit confirming ownership from your local Police Department
  • US Citizens to use US Customs form 4457

Outfitter Letter

A letter from your outfitter confirming the following:

  • Hunting dates
  • Location of your hunting
  • Species you will be hunting
  • Firearms
  • Outfitters accreditation number

NOTE THAT ALL DOCUMENTS SUBMITTED MUST BE CERTIFIED AS TRUE COPIES BY YOUR POLICE DEPARTMENT OR ATTORNEY!
